How to Connect Studio 5000 with Emulator and RS Linx – Step-by-Step Guide

Step 1: Install the Required Software

If you don’t have these, download and install them from Rockwell Automation’s official website.


Step 2: Open RS Linx Classic and Configure Communication

  1. Launch RS Linx Classic.

  2. Click on “Communications”“Configure Drivers”.

  3. From the list, select “Virtual Backplane (SoftLogix)” and click Add New.

  4. Name the driver (e.g., Emulator Driver) and click OK.

  5. Your Emulator should now appear in RS Linx.


Step 3: Open Studio 5000 Emulator

  1. Launch Studio 5000 Logix Emulator.

  2. Click on Slot 2 (or any empty slot) → Create Module.

  3. Select 1756-L71 Emulator Controller and click OK.

  4. Set a name for the controller and click Finish.


Step 4: Open Studio 5000 and Create a New Project

  1. Open Studio 5000 Logix Designer.

  2. Click New Project → Select 1756-L71 Emulator.

  3. Give a name to your project and click Create.

  4. In the Controller Properties, set the Chassis Type to match the emulator.

  5. Click OK.


Step 5: Configure the Communication in Studio 5000

  1. Go to Controller Organizer → Right-click I/O Configuration.

  2. Select New Module → Choose 1756-EN2T (Ethernet module).

  3. Set the slot number same as the emulator.

  4. Click OK.


Step 6: Download and Test the Connection

  1. Click on Who Active in Studio 5000.

  2. Select Emulator Driver in RS Linx.

  3. Click Download → Wait for it to load.

  4. Click Go Online to test the connection.
